How to Heal In Today’s World

Is healing possible? Yes it is absolutely possible. We Just Forgot How. Let’s dig in and review some basic truths about healing that are rarely discussed or utilized successfully in today’s modern world of medicine. First we will review what most people do when a health crisis hits, and then we’ll discuss what God has to say about it, and how we can successfully incorporate these truths into our own healing journeys.

Word Curse Identity & Validation Cycle

What do most people do when they get a scary health diagnosis (aka “word curse”)?  Most often, people fall victim to the Word Curse Identity & Validation Cycle. They:

1. are in shock at the news and either freak out or internalize it
2. start searching the web for more information on the word curse diagnosis, symptoms, treatments… and then freak out even more
3. then while waiting for the next appointment, their minds run free with thoughts about the unknown, stress sets in, and they either knowingly or unknowingly invite fear (the enemy) to lock into a solid stronghold of their being
4. spend a significant amount of time talking about it (repeating the word curse over and over with friends and family)
5. let the negative thoughts grow and consume their mind with the what if’s and continued word curse repetition
6. allow frustration and anger at their body (part or parts) to set in and in some cases speak and/or think dislike, disgust, or hatred onto their physical body part or parts needing help
7. finally arrive at the long awaited appointment to see a specialist, get more labs, have a biopsy, or dive into even deeper layers of specialist referrals, etc.
8. start some kind of treatment protocol, surgery, therapy, or combination of these
9. ultimately accept the word curse as their fate, become a victim of the disease, and
10. let it become part of their identity and life.
11. repeat steps 2 – 10. 

The Word Curse Identity & Validation Cycle becomes a vicious drain on the patient from an emotional and spiritual perspective alongside the physical symptoms they are already experiencing. The fearful energy surrounding it is now cast and solidified into their body, mind, and spirit—shanking their delicate life force and spiritual self from almost every possible perspective. Studies¹ have proven that the mind directly affects the body, yet this fact is somehow hidden behind the veil of fear and the hamster wheel of modern day medicine.

Symptoms & Our Approach

On one hand, we should be thankful for the doctors and labs that help identify what’s going on (chronic disease, autoimmune issues, cancer, etc.) because symptoms are our body’s way of telling us “hey, look at me! I have a root cause issue that needs to be addressed!”. However, our approach to the information received must be radically different in order to successfully heal. The physical work that needs to be done is somewhat obvious. The emotional work that needs to be done is many times brushed under the rug, but just as important as the physical work if not more. The spiritual work that needs to be done? Yes, there is a ton of it available to every single person on this planet if we open our hearts and accept the beautiful gifts waiting for us in a health crisis. Ironically it doesn’t cost a penny.

Welcome to the Spiritual Side of Healing

Real spiritual healing extends way beyond putting your name on a church prayer list or asking people to pray for you. In addition, if your own personal approach to the spiritual side of healing primarily revolves around reactive prayer sessions, you are unknowingly lessening your faith to an emergency response system. Prayer is just the very tippy top surface starting point of the spiritual gifts you have been given. Begging God to heal what He already knows is broken is an insult to the Creator of the Universe, the Creator of you—it is not the right approach. Why? He already knows. God told us Himself that he is the ultimate Healer and that he will fight for us, all we have to do is stay calm. Let’s dig in deeper.

“…I am the Lord who heals you.” —Exodus 15:26

“For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, declares the Lord.” —Jeremiah 30:17

“But I came by and saw you there, helplessly kicking about in your own blood. As you lay there, I said, “Live!”” —Ezekiel 16:6

“The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” —Exodus 14:14

Yet many who receive a scary diagnosis forget these promises and the most important “stay calm” directive in the middle of a health crisis. Instead, they allow their mind and spirit to become open to everything that is opposite of God’s promise, and spin out of control. God told us to pay attention and listen carefully. Not to lose sight of these truths. REMEMBER!

“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.” —Proverbs 4:20-22

God Went Even Further

He literally came to earth in the form of a human being through Jesus to break the curse Himself in the most radical way possible. Before Jesus came, men had to climb mountains to approach God. Jesus brought a new covenant… God came down to approach people (us) through Jesus.

““This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, ‘He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.'” —Matthew 8:17

“But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing…” —Galatians 3:13

“But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. By Jesus’ stripes we are healed.” —Isaiah 53:5

Jesus paid the ultimate price (his life on earth) to set all of us free from sin, sickness, and disease. We have been told that by Jesus’ stripes, we are healed. The power in that promise is explosive and not focused on nearly enough! Jesus also reminded us about the power of God.

“Jesus replied, ‘What is impossible for people is possible with God.’” —Luke 18:27

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you have faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

Jesus isn’t asking for us to have massive confidence in ourselves. His point is that even a tiny, genuine speck of faith placed in God, can move obstacles that seem completely impossible in our extremely limited 3D reality. In other words, the power isn’t the size of the seed, it’s the life inside of the seed and the soil that it’s planted in (faith in God’s promises). This power can move mountains. Jesus says nothing would be impossible.

You Have Power and Authority

While Jesus was here on earth visually demonstrating healing miracles, he also taught us how to use our own power and authority. How is it that we have forgotten this life changing and important part of The Bible? How is it that we have forgotten God’s truth as it relates to healing? We have access to this actionable healing protocol right now!

 “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.” —Luke 10:19

“One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” — Luke 9:1–2

“Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.” — Matthew 10:1

Did you know that 10 days after Jesus ascended into heaven and the Holy Spirit was poured out, the believers walked in the direct and total power and authority Jesus promised them? Check out the book of Acts where multiple individuals (just like you and me) performed healing miracles through the Holy Spirit. Check out the list of miracles performed by other people. Do we have access now to this same healing power used back in Jesus’ day? Normal, everyday people like you and me? YES we do!

How Do We Get This Healing Power?

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:8

“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” —Romans 8:11

We get supernatural healing power through the Holy Spirit, when we accept Jesus Christ as our salvation. The only thing we need to do after that is to stay calm and have faith. Why is it that the simple act of faith is often the first thing people forget in the middle of a health crisis? Or worse yet for some, faith is a core part of their healing journey, but it’s been relegated down to begging God for healing. He gave us the actionable ability to use our power and authority to heal (not just back in the biblical days), but in today’s world too.

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” —John 14:12-14

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” —Hebrews 11:1

“Then he touched their eyes and said, ‘Because of your faith, it will happen.’” —Matthew 9:29

“‘What do you mean, “If I can?”’ Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’” —Mark 9:23

The Holy Spirit Helps Us

Jesus not only taught us about our power and authority, he did what he said he would do and sent the Holy Spirit to be with us here on earth after he ascended into heaven. The Holy Spirit was sent to act as our inner guide, advocate, and comforter—giving us the wisdom, peace, and strength to live out God’s purpose every day (including healing). The Holy Spirit is an awesome topic to research as part of your healing journey support structures if you haven’t already.

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” —1 Corinthians 6:19-20

So yes, how we treat our bodies matters! It is a physical temple for the Holy Spirit. Again…

“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” Romans 8:11

Do you have full body goosebumps? Do you realize what this means?

So, What is Our Role in Healing?

Our role is to have faith, to stay calm, to believe God’s word, and to use our power and authority through Christ Jesus.

“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.” —Matthew 21:22

Why are our thoughts (what we replay in our mind) and what we say with our mouths so important when it comes to healing? Here is a plot twist you may not have expected—

“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” —Proverbs 18:21

“A tiny rudder can determine the direction of an entire ship. Your tongue can do the same with your life.” —James 3:4-5

What is happening to our body part(s) or body when we speak or think negatively? Are they absorbing that negative energy? Are they being lifted up or made worse? Words are energy, and God tells us that our tongue (what we speak) can bring death or life.

What if instead of repeatedly begging God to take the diagnosis away, we partner with God and speak life directly into our body (temple of the Holy Spirit)? What if we speak death directly into the word curse diagnosis? For example, “I speak life and healing over my entire body, mind, and spirit. I speak life and direct healing in the name of Jesus over my [insert body part(s) here]. I love you and I appreciate all you are, and everything you do for me on a daily basis. Thank you for telling me something is wrong. In the name of Jesus Christ, I speak death over the [insert word curse diagnosis here] that is causing issues to my [insert affected body parts here]. I am fully healed by the stripes of Jesus. Thank you God for my healing!”

How Does God Want Us to Walk Through Each Day (With or Without a Diagnosis)?

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit sapping a person’s strength.” —Proverbs 17:22

“A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news makes the bones healthy.” —Proverbs 15:30

“A glad heart makes a happy face, but a broken heart crushes the spirit.” —Proverbs 15:13

“The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit?” —Proverbs 18:14

Find joy even in the darkness of disease. Force yourself. God says it’s good for us. In addition, guard your mind and heart.

“My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” —Proverbs 4:20-23

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6-7

Emotional Baggage Belongs to God, Not You

God says to guard your mind and your heart. Let’s take it a level deeper. If you are sick, it is extremely important to release all negative emotions that may have contributed to this health issue (that is a thing… and the topic of a different blog).  Speak life over your body in the name of Jesus Christ. Invite the Holy Spirit into your mind, soul, and body. Thank God for all He has done, and then give it all to Him. All of your fears, sadness, rejection, shame, etc. Anything that is not of God. Give it to Him. All of it. That weight is not yours to carry, and it may be impacting your health. Faith and neuroscience agree—the thoughts you continually repeat shape your mind, and you need to be in a healing space. Give it to God.

Prayer and Your People

Now let’s add one more layer to healing and go full circle back to prayer. As you work to control your health situation spiritually, reach out to those who love you and that you know are connected to God. Ask them to pray with and for you. Continue to pray yourself as well. Do it from a place of calm, peace, and with a grateful heart. Remember, God already knows. He already gave you the power and authority to heal. Have confidence knowing this divine truth.

Do Angels Have a Role in Healing?

We have God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and our friends & family all on our fighting team to get better. What about angels?

“No evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.” —Psalm 91:10-12

“Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with five covered porches. Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, paralyzed—lay on the porches waiting for a certain movement of the water, for an angel of the Lord came down from time to time and stirred up the water. And the first person to step in after the water was stirred was healed of whatever disease he had.” —John 5:2-4

“Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.” —Hebrews 1:14

“See, I am sending an angel before you to protect you on your journey and to lead you safely to the place I have prepared for you.” —Exodus 23:20

Ask for angels to be with you—above, below, and around all sides. They were made to help us, engage them!

God’s Healing Validation Cycle

How can we have any fear when it comes to healing? How can we possibly give the enemy such a stronghold? We have been given the power and authority by the stripes of Jesus, and through the Holy Spirit (who lives in us) to heal. We have been told by the God of all creation, our Creator that we should stay calm and have joy.

What if instead of allowing the Word Curse Identity & Validation Cycle to unfold at the news of a scary diagnosis, we instead focused on God’s Healing Validation Cycle:

1. Stay calm and give it to God
2. Stay out of the search engines (fear mongering rabbit holes)
3. Invoke the Holy Spirit as a force for healing
4. Review and memorize the above Bible verses related to healing and God’s plans for us
5. Have joy, a cheerful heart, and unshakable faith
6. Forgive, ask for forgiveness, repent, and let go of every negative emotion that has ever crossed your path. All of it. Release all fear and refuse to let it take a foothold in your healing trajectory. If it tries to set in, give it to God. Your spirit does not need any of that weight ever, much less when you are focused on healing.
7. Work with your medical team as needed without accepting the word curse or letting it become your identity
8. Guard your heart and mind, and do not allow yourself to become a victim of the disease
9. Ask your family and friends to surround you with prayer, positivity, and support
10. Ask your angels to surround and protect you
11. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your body and mind with healing thoughts and actions
12. Remember all of the healing miracles Jesus and others performed, and know that you have been given the same power and authority through the Holy Spirit to perform healing miracles yourself
13. Confidently use your power and authority:
    1. Speak life into your body, mind, and spirit
    1. Speak death into the word curse diagnosis
14. Give thanks to God for healing you, and
15. Repeat as needed.

“He forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases!” —Psalm 103:3“

Tying It All Together

God can heal what you cannot explain. When we stop for a moment to realize who we are and more importantly, who we are fighting this battle with, everything changes. If for some reason, you feel you are not worthy of the above gifts, just remember this: “For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” —Ephesians 2:6

We are God’s children, and He is good. He gave us every tool we could ever possibly need including direct access to Him, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and our angels. We have this divine access every day we get to grace this amazing planet, not just during a healing crisis. “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us ,who can be against us?” —Romans 8:31

While I am not giving medical advice, I do want to leave you with this: the spiritual side of healing is a free, priceless gift from God. Here is a comprehensive breakdown of the specific, individual healing miracles performed by Jesus as recorded across the four Gospels, along with their Bible references.

Individual Healing Miracles of Jesus

These folks used their power and authority to heal:

1. Peter—demonstrated incredible authority through the Spirit.

• The Lame Man at the Beautiful Gate (Acts 3:1–10)

Peter and John encounter a man crippled from birth. Peter speaks with boldness:

“I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” (Acts 3:6)

The man’s feet and ankles instantly became strong, and he went leaping and praising God.

• Physical Shadow Healing Many (Acts 5:12–16)

The Holy Spirit’s presence was so dense surrounding Peter that people brought the sick into the streets on cots so Peter’s shadow might fall across them. Every single one was healed.

• Healing Aeneas from Paralysis (Acts 9:32–35)

Peter visits Lydda and finds Aeneas, who had been bedridden and paralyzed for eight years.

“Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up and make your bed!” (Acts 9:34)

He stood up immediately, causing entire cities to turn to God.

• Raising Tabitha from the Dead (Acts 9:36–42)

When a beloved believer died, Peter knelt and prayed, then turned to the body and said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, sat up, and Peter presented her alive to the believers.

2. Paul (aka Saul of Tarsus)

After his own miraculous encounter with Jesus Christ, Paul’s ministry incorporated extraordinary manifestations of the Holy Spirit’s power.

• Healing the Crippled Man at Lystra (Acts 14:8–10)

Paul sees a man crippled from birth who had never walked. Perceiving the man had faith to be healed, Paul shouts:

“Stand up on your feet!” (Acts 14:10)

The man jumped up and started walking.

• Extraordinary Miracles via Handkerchiefs & Aprons (Acts 19:11–12)

In Ephesus, God gave Paul the power to perform unusual miracles:

“When handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were placed on sick people, their diseases left them, and evil spirits came out of them.” (Acts 19:12)

• Raising Eutychus from the Dead (Acts 20:9–12)

A young man fell from a third-story window during a long sermon and died. Paul went down, threw his arms around him, and declared he was alive—restoring him completely.

• Healing Publius’s Father and the Island of Malta (Acts 28:7–9)

After being shipwrecked on Malta, Paul prays and lays hands on the chief official’s father, who was sick with fever and dysentery, healing him. Afterward, all the other sick people on the island came and were cured.

• Surviving a Pit Viper Bite Unharmed (Acts 28:3–6)

While not ministering to another, Paul himself experienced physical protection when bitten by a deadly snake, shaking it off into the fire with no ill effects.

3. Stephen

One of the first seven deacons chosen to serve the early church, Stephen was filled with the Spirit and operated in great power before his martyrdom.

• Miracles Among the People (Acts 6:8)

“Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.” (Acts 6:8)

4. Philip the Evangelist

Another of the seven deacons, Philip traveled down to Samaria following persecution in Jerusalem.

• Mass Healings in Samaria (Acts 8:6–8)

“Crowds listened intently to Philip because they were eager to hear his message and see the miraculous signs he did. Many evil spirits were cast out, screaming as they left their victims. And many who had been paralyzed or lame were healed.” (Acts 8:6–7)

5. Ananias of Damascus

An ordinary disciple in Damascus whom God used in a key moment of divine healing.

• Restoring Paul’s Sight (Acts 9:17–18)

Sent by a vision from the Lord, Ananias places his hands on Saul (Paul) after his blinding encounter on the road to Damascus:

“Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus… has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. (Acts 9:17–18)

6. The Believers / Apostles Corporately

Scripture makes clear that healing was not limited to just one or two leaders, but was a hallmark of the Spirit-filled community.

• The Apostles as a Group (Acts 2:43 & Acts 5:12)

“A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders.” (Acts 2:43)

• The Church Praying for Boldness (Acts 4:29–31)

The early believers prayed together:

“Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:30)

The building shook, they were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to preach and demonstrate God’s power.
